Meet at Peñas Blancas border post, Nicaraguan side (at Tica Bus/Trans Nica terminal) where we pick you up at 10:00 AM.

We arrive in the colonial city of Granada for hotel accommodation.

In the afternoon (pick-up at 3:00 PM at your hotel), we head to the pier for a boat tour on Lake Cocibolca among the numerous small islands (isletas).

Enjoy leisure time to explore the highlights of this beautiful colonial city.

Transfer to Masaya Volcano, one of the seven volcanoes in the world with active lava magma in its crater (pick-up at 4:30 PM at your hotel). We arrive with our transport service to the mouth of the volcano, which illuminates the surrounding area with its light.

Alternatively, you can take the gastronomy tour (2 hours, 30 minutes) starting at 9:20 AM in the main square.

Continue to León, the ancient capital and main cultural center of the country.

Begin your adventure with an early transfer to Cerro Negro (pick-up at 6:30 AM from your hotel), one of Nicaragua’s seven active volcanoes. Its dark slopes of pulverized lava—left behind by the 1999 eruption—create an otherworldly landscape.
A one-hour hike brings you to the summit, where endless green valleys and neighboring volcanoes unfold beneath you. On the way down, feel the softness of the volcanic ash under your feet or try sandboarding—fun, simple, and suitable for all ages.

In the afternoon, León reveals its soul through its murals. We begin at the city’s largest one, near the cathedral, a vivid chronicle of Nicaragua’s history up to the 19th century—moments of struggle, resilience, and identity woven into color.

Born in the 1980s amid reconstruction, the mural movement blossomed into more than a thousand works across the country. We continue through revolutionary murals that made León the symbolic capital of the revolution, capturing the key imagery of the 20th century—like a living documentary of Nicaragua’s past, present, and hopes for the future.

We close the day at the University, admiring murals celebrating culture, traditions, and literature, and finally visit the Museum of Legends and Traditions—an insightful finish that frames León as one of Central America’s great intellectual centers.

We pick you up at your hotel and drive approximately 45 minutes to Chichigalpa, known as the city of rum, where sugar cane grown in the western part of the country is transformed into the renowned Flor de Caña rum. This tour traces the history of this award-winning rum from the factory’s foundation to the present day, highlighting five generations of craftsmanship that cater to all palates, from the youngest to the most aged.

Next, we transfer to Las Peñitas, a fishing village on the Pacific coast, where guests can enjoy lunch at a beachside restaurant (lunch on your own).

After lunch, we embark on a boat tour of the Juan Venado Nature Reserve, sailing along the strait between the coast and the island opposite, where the mangrove forest is home to crocodiles and crabs. We dock on the island, whose vegetation provides a habitat for dozens of bird species. A short walk takes us to the ocean side of the island, where the expansive sandy beach hosts Paslama turtles laying their eggs between August and December.

Depending on the season, there’s an opportunity to visit the nursery of baby turtles that hatch daily and are set free in the ocean. We then return by boat to Las Peñitas, where our transportation awaits to take us back to León.
