Upon your arrival at Panama Airport, you will be greeted and transferred to the hotel.  Spend the rest of the day settling into your accommodations and exploring the charming town at your leisure.

This tour focuses on the indigenous Wounaan community, situated near Gamboa within Soberania Park (approximately 40 km from Panama City). We will meet at the Gamboa public pier, where the chief of the Wounaan community will join us aboard the boat equipped for security. During this excursion, we will navigate the Panama Canal’s waterways, exploring secondary routes that include well-known spots like Monkey Island. Here, various monkey species such as Titi and Capuchin may approach the boat to enjoy the fruits used to attract them. With some luck, we may also observe other wildlife along the way, such as crocodiles, turtles, and a diverse array of bird species, enhancing this already fascinating experience.

The boat journey continues through the hidden islands of Gatun Lake, the primary water reserve of the Panama Canal, offering participants a unique opportunity to observe the immense ships transiting between the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. We then proceed to the village nestled in the heart of the tropical forest to uncover the secrets of Wounaan culture. You’ll have the chance to hear from a community member about the significance of their traditional dances and the enchanting music of the flutes performed during these cultural showcases.

A typical lunch is included, featuring freshly fried river fish and plantains served in banana leaves, eaten without utensils, alongside tropical fruits. You’ll also have the opportunity to get a non-permanent tattoo using vegetable dyes or take a guided walk in the forest, where a botanist will highlight the miraculous properties of various plants

We will pick you up at your hotel between 5:00 and 5:30 AM in a 4×4 vehicle authorized by the Guna authorities with 6 passenger seats. The car journey will take approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes to Nusagandi (the customs border with Guna Yala region). 

Upon arrival at the pier in San Blas, we depart towards the Lemon Cay area, a group of small islands in the Caribbean of Panama, about 40 minutes by boat from the mainland.

During this amazing tour, we will have the opportunity to disembark and walk in the natural pools, ancient submerged islands full of starfish, land on some islands to swim or snorkel in the crystal turquoise sea with abundant coral reefs, and explore islands surrounded by palm trees and fine white sand. Lunch (seafood) will be served in a typical and basic restaurant, offering an immersive experience in the culture of the Guna indigenous people where many ancient traditions persist.

We return to the mainland around 3:00 PM, arrive at the pier, and provide transfer back to your hotel. Estimated arrival at the hotel: 6:30/7:00 PM.

Discover the Waterfall

The waterfall is located in the community of Cerro Banco, within the El Kiki forest reserve, and is considered the highest in the country, with approximately 112 meters of free fall. Upon entering the reserve, we meet our indigenous guide and continue in a 4×4 vehicle to reach the start of the trail. From there, we hike about 2 km to reach the area behind the waterfall, creating an incredible visual and sensory effect. It’s an experience almost impossible to have with other waterfalls, offering a unique sense of freedom. At the top, a natural cave provides the perfect viewpoint to admire the powerful flow from the inside or enjoy a refreshing swim in the small lake while touching the rainbows created by water particles and sunlight.

Return to Mro Café

The tour continues by exploring the grandmothers’ ancestral knowledge through a purification cacao ritual, the giving of a Ngäbere name, and the sharing of stories related to therapeutic practices and traditional natural medicine. This experience enriches the mind and strengthens the spirit. It is perfect for those who feel there is another way to live and wish to learn the ancient customs, legends, and myths of the Ngäbe indigenous people. The typical lunch offered is prepared with organic vegetables strictly sourced from nearby fields, ensuring fresh, additive-free food. Available souvenirs that support the community and offer lasting memories include a Krä (bag or suitcase), traditional dresses, beadwork, hats, and multicolored hair bands.

This tour offers a captivating experience within a vast private nature reserve nestled in the lush valley of the Baru Volcano, at an altitude of 1700 to 1800 meters above sea level. The journey begins with a forest walk along paths that wind past a stream with multiple waterfalls, surrounded by diverse species of trees, plants, birds, monkeys, and rodents. After approximately 3 hours of exploration, we return to the farm for a delicious lunch made from organic produce grown exclusively in the reserve.

In the early afternoon, we transfer to a coffee plantation for an interactive tour led by a local expert. Learn about the cultivation, harvesting, drying, roasting, and tasting of various globally recognized coffee types, leaving you with a memorable sensory experience. We return to the hotel in the late afternoon.

Begin your journey in downtown Boquete, where we set off to explore Central America’s only specialized tea farm. Learn the fascinating story of tea—from the ancient origins of the Camellia Sinensis plant to modern cultivation, harvesting, and production techniques. Enjoy a guided tasting of four classic varieties: White, Green, Black, and Oolong.

In the afternoon, we pick you up for a multisensory rum experience. Discover the art behind rum making and the nuances that define each aging process. Explore characteristics such as distillation methods, alcohol content, origin, bouquet, body, and color while tasting Extra Light Rum, Light Rum, Old Rum, and Golden Cask selections.

Day of leisure

Not far from the Caribbean’s best beaches lies a unique ecotourism project where you can engage with the Ngäbe indigenous community. This initiative educates visitors about the community’s agricultural practices, the use of cocoa for health and ritual purposes, and supports local efforts in healthcare and education funding.  

The trip begins with a 45-minute journey from Bocas Town to Rio Oeste, involving a 30-minute taxi boat ride to Almirante followed by a 15-minute car or minibus ride. Explore cocoa’s history, culture, and flavors on this journey considered “a gift from the Gods”. Engage in the entire chocolate production process, from fruit harvesting to seed drying and grinding. Enjoy a forest walk to see cocoa trees, visit a mountain farm where Ngäbe women in traditional attire demonstrate chocolate making under a thatched roof, and indulge in tastings of dark chocolate, roasted cocoa, and pure chocolate. A traditional Ngäbe meal of free-range chicken with organic vegetables and tubers caps off the tour before returning to Almirante via a taxi boat.

With just a 10-minute boat ride, escape the bustling roads of Bocas del Toro to discover the paradisiacal Isla Solarte and Isla Bastimentos. These islands boast palm-fringed beaches, crystal-clear waters, and mangrove forests. Prepare to relax, swim, soak up the sun, and snorkel to explore the sea’s wonders! . Begin at Isla Solarte, entering the serene Blue Coconut Bay hidden among mangroves, where the crystal-clear sea reflects mesmerizing hues amidst lush surroundings. Next, journey to Isla Bastimentos, embarking on an easy 10-minute forest walk. Keep a keen eye out for the area’s tiny red frogs. Arrive at Red Frog Beach, featuring expansive white sands kissed by the characteristic Caribbean waves. Return to Bocas Town around 3:30 PM in the afternoon.

The tour begins at Dolphin Bay near Isla Cristóbal, where we’ll observe dolphins swimming alongside the boat. After this memorable encounter, we’ll proceed to Cayo Coral for snorkeling in its vibrant coral reef, home to a variety of colorful fish, sponges, lobsters, and squid. Our next stop is Cayo Zapatilla, named after a local fruit, where you can relax on its pristine white-sand beach. You’ll have free time to explore a 20-minute trail through the island’s interior forest, where you’ll discover exotic tropical plants and may spot sloths and colorful birds in their natural habitat. The tour concludes in the afternoon around 3:30 pm with our return to Bocas Town.
