Nicaragua seduces visitors with a mix of volcanic landscapes and colonial architecture, everything is so extraordinary that it seems unreal. If you are around, having a holiday in Costa Rica, and you do not have time to continue discovering Nicaragua on a full scale, we thought about you. We offer you an extension of 4 days / 3 nights in nearby Nicaragua where you can discover beautiful colonial cities, amazing active volcanoes, a huge lake, and surf the black hill of Cerro Negro volcano.
This is a group trip for a minimum of 4 participants, the more you are, the less you pay!
The itinerary
Day 1: Peñas Blanca border-Granada-Cocibolca lake
Meeting at Peña Blanca border post, Nicaraguan side (at Tica Bus/Trans Nica terminal) where we pick you up and leave at 10:00 am.
We reach the colonial city of Granada with hotel accommodation.
In the afternoon (pick-up 3:00 pm at your hotel) we move to the pier where we take a boat tour in Cocibolca lake among the numerous and small islands (isletas).
Day 2: Granada-Masaya volcano-Leon
Spare time to discover the highlights of this beautiful colonial city
Transfer to Masaya volcano, one of the seven volcanoes in the world with lava magma moving in the crater bed (pick up 4:30 pm at your hotel). We arrive with our transport service to the mouth of the volcano which illuminates the surrounding area with its light.
Alternatively you can take the gastronomy tour (2 hours, 30 min.) that starts at 9:20 am in the main square
Then we continue to Leon, the ancient capital and main cultural center of the country.
Day 3: Leon-Vulcano Cerro Negro
Transfer to the feet of Cerro Negro volcano (pick up 6:30 am at your hotel), one of Nicaragua’s seven active volcanoes. The slope of the crater is covered by black pulverized lava, witness of the last strong eruption in 1999.
We reach the top in about one hour walking. Enjoy the extraordinary view over the green valley below and the other volcanoes of this zone!
To come back, we sink our feet in the soft volcanic ash, or we practice sandboarding, a very easy activity, suitable for adults and children.
Spare time in the afternoon to discover this majestic colonial city.
Day 4: Leon-Rivas-Peñas Blanca border
We leave (pick up 6:00 am at your hotel) to return to the border.
