Near the border between Nicaragua and Honduras is one of the most beautiful places in the country: Somoto Canyon. We offer you the opportunity to get to know it calmly, with full board and overnight stay in a local hostel or a tent. This experience allows you to lie on your back and slide over the river Coco by funny tubing, swim in its clear waters, dive off a 15-meter rock, and hike this canyon old as the Earth itself. At night you don’t have to think about anything, just relax.
The itinerary
DAY 1
You arrive when you want, your hostel/tent is waiting for you.
DAY 2
At 8:30 am, after breakfast, we begin the exploration of the national park in 3 different ways combined along a 9 km circuit. We go on foot where there is a path, but we need boat trips and tubing to cross the river and some parts of the canyon (we use large floats on which we lie down sliding along the calm waters of the Coco River). During the day, we take breaks to allow you to swim in the crystal clear waters of the river, or, if you’re brave enough, you can dive into the Coco river with jumps up to 15 meters high. We reach the upper part of the canyon where there are extraordinary panoramic viewpoints and where, with a short detour, we visit a farm. Here you can learn how to milk cows and prepare the typical tortillas, made from cornmeal. At the end of the excursion we return to the hostel/tent to enjoy the lunch.
Spare time to enjoy nature/rest. Around 6:30 pm we have dinner.
If you stay overnight in a tent, you can try fishing, then you’ll cook by the river and have a dinner with what you have caught, old west style.

DAY 3
We get up and end this adventure with a typical Nicaraguan breakfast.

We offer you the wilder option of sleeping in a tent located in the canyon, facing the river where the moon reflects at night.

- Transport to arrive in Somoto the 1st day
What to bring?
We suggest you should dress appropriately with hiking clothes and shoes. Bring a swimming suit, a towel, some water and snacks for the hike, sun protection, a hat and a change of clothes. We suggest you bring a dry bag for your valuables.
