Ometepe by motorbike

Explore Ometepe over two days on a motor vehicle adventure. Our itinerary includes visits to the San Ramon waterfall, Ojo de Agua natural pool, and Punta Jesús-María beach. Spend the night in a hammock right on the beach for a truly immersive experience.

Roads are pathways that connect lovers, families, and friends. They facilitate the transportation of goods and the conduct of business, and they have even played a role in building empires by linking regions and people. Yet, for the traveler, a road represents an opportunity to create lasting memories. Because the true essence of a road trip lies not in reaching the destination, but in the unpredictable adventures that unfold along the journey. Grab your wheels and join us as we discover the incredible Ometepe Island. In the words of a great adventurer reflecting on his life on the road: ‘The air was soft, the stars so fine, the promise of every cobbled alley so great, that I thought I was in a dream.’ Can you guess who said that?

The itinerary

Day 1:

We gather at 11 am at our office near the Moyogalpa port. You’ll select your preferred mode of transport (ATV, dirt motorbike, or scooter) and embark on our adventure. We pass through rural communities, reaching the Altagracia area to explore ancient statues depicting island gods with human bodies and animal heads. Continuing alongside the island’s white beaches, we arrive at the parking area at the base of Maderas volcano.

Our ascent begins, immersing us in the volcano’s lush vegetation, home to birds, monkeys, and reptiles. We’ll discover magnificent waterfalls where you can enjoy a refreshing natural shower. After some relaxation, we return to our starting point and proceed to our campsite by the lake. Each person sets up their own hammock (provided from the start), securing it to trees, and enjoys the tranquil lakeside view before falling asleep under the stars.

Day 2:

We kick off the day with a traditional Nicaraguan breakfast (included) before heading to “Ojo de Agua,” a natural pool of mineral-rich waters surrounded by lush greenery.

Our final stop is Punta Jesus-Maria, a picturesque strip of land extending into the lake’s western edge, offering breathtaking views of the volcano.

Finally, we return to our office and return the vehicles.

Notes:

  • A valid driver’s license is mandatory.
  • Vehicles are provided and returned with a full tank of gas.
  • A $100 USD deposit (cash or credit card) is required for vehicle rental.
  • Each driver is responsible for any damage to the rented vehicle.
  • Vehicles are covered by compulsory insurance under Nicaraguan law, which includes third-party damage coverage (deductibles apply based on vehicle type). Damage to the rented vehicle or the driver is not covered by this insurance policy.
