Food and socialization

Families and communities are the cradle of our food and culinary habits. Food is not even rational, it comes from the dirt to be cooked and prepared by hands that care for you. It comes from traditions, relations, habits and climate. You can’t just eat good food. You’ve got to talk about it too. And you’ve got to talk about it with somebody who understands that kind of food. For this tour we bring you just outside San Josè, in the cultural town of Heredia, not just to eat, but to live food. We meet people who cultivate it, people that sell it and finally people that prepare it. Let’s start a conversation, and bon appétit.

The itinerary

Transfer to the nearby Province of Heredia, the “land of flowers” where we get to know the village of Barva de Heredia, rich in culture, folklore and tradition. Here we visit the interesting Museum of Popular Culture which has the purpose of strengthening the link University-Costa Rican Society and focuses on the traditions of the country.

Then we get to know the municipal market of Heredia, a Costa Rican institution, since it was founded in 1889. This is the ideal place to savor the colorful tropical fruits that come from different regions of the country.

After the experience of the market, “Heredia’s aunt” opens the doors of her house to us and we spend convivial moments together.

Our new friend teaches us how to prepare some typical dishes that we enjoy together.

Return to San Jose.
