The miracle of birth is always an incredible experience but seeing hundreds of mini turtles hacking and reaching for the water is a one time opportunity to just be amazed by nature. We offer daily tours to the Chacocente Reserve, not as well known as others, and so an uncrowded beach where you can admire the fauna and flora of the dry forest. Nicaragua always gives us off the beaten path adventures but this one is absolutely unmissable.

The itinerary

Chacocente is one of the major reserves of dry tropical forest in Nicaragua, it hosts a great variety of flora and fauna common to this virgin environment.

At the shores of this reserve, along 11 km of coastline, millions of (mainly) Paslama and (also) Carey, Tora, and Torita turtles come every year to pawn.

Massive arrivals begin in July and end in January.  Nests are moved and guarded until birth, to protect them from the eggs looters that take the eggs to sell them as a special dish. The incubation period is between 45 to 50 days.

We’ll watch the spectacle of sunset in the reserve and wait approximately an hour for the turtles as they start arriving when it gets dark.  It takes about 40 minutes to enter the site of this ancient miracle of nature from our starting point. Once in the reserve, you can walk along the beach, go trekking, bird watching, and/or even surfing as there is a really nice surf break.

For your convenience, this experience includes an overnight stay after the turtle’s tour.

We have chosen for you a small and characteristic hostel a few meters from the beach, recently built, equipped with a complete kitchen for hosts use, shared and comfortable bathroom/showers

This is a magical trip, don’t miss it!
