Have you ever heard about “ash boarding”? No? What about “volcano surfing”? Well if your answer is still no, we are here to enlighten you, or better we bring you to practice one of the most absurd and fun sports in the world. The thing is to be in Leon, wait for us to pick you up and start the adventure that is worth a trip to Nicaragua. Set on one of the most fascinating volcanoes of the country, a small black hill that is actually still active, there is a slope of ashes where you can jump on a board and slide down. Just to say… the way up is cute too.

The itinerary

We pick you up at your hotel and with the 4×4 transport we reach the “Las Pilas-El Hoyo” Nature Reserve to experience a unique emotion on the Cerro Negro volcano, which is part of the volcanic chain de los Maribiuos, seven volcanoes lined up like skittles.

This active volcano – the youngest in Central America – has black walls due to the presence of pulverized lava and is totally devoid of vegetation eliminated by the last strong eruption in 1999.

With an easy walk of about an hour you get to the top. Enjoy the amazing view of the green plain fields and other surrounding volcanoes!

It is the moment of emotion. We dress in the appropriate suits and go back to the valley sliding seated on a surf-type board, very simple and fun!

Return to Leon with our vehicle.
