Award-winning architect Frank Gehry said that “Architecture should speak of its time and place, but yearn for timelessness.” No words were more right than this one, right here, right now, for this tour. We bring you to discover the oldest and newest part of Panama City all in one day. We start with the ruins of the town to finish at the splendid Biomuseum designed by Mr Gehry himself. A shortcut through history to appreciate its timelessness.

The itinerary

Pick up in hotel from driver-guide to start the journey at monumental historic site of Panama Viejo is an opportunity to discover the history of the first city founded by the Spanish colonizers on the Pacific coast of the American continent and the vestiges of its pre-Hispanic inhabitants. The Visitor Center covers a distance of 1.5km and takes 2 hours, including the museum, with a walk through the site and ascent to the viewpoint. The visitor can use the internal transport system, offered to travel the entire route, with several stops at the main points to visit each monument in total comfort. The highest point is located in the Cathedral Tower, has a height of 30 meters and allows the visitor to appreciate a panoramic view of the colonial city and the modern city.

The tour continues to the Biomuseum, designed and conceived by the world-famous architect Frank Gehry and is the first project in Latin America and the Carribeans. The building was designed to tell the story of the Isthmus of Panama as it emerged from the sea, uniting two continents, separating a great ocean into two parts and forever changing the planet’s biodiversity. The museum has an area of 4000 square meters and contains eight permanent exhibition galleries designed by Bruce Mau Design. The permanent exhibition is a combination of art and science, which will induce in the visitors the feeling of being faced with a surprising phenomenon and surrounded by an infinite number of living beings and communities. A projection space of three heights and ten screens that submerge the visitor in an audiovisual presentation of the natural wonders that make up all the ecosystems of Panama that emerged from the sea three million years ago. The gigantic forces of the interior of the Earth that formed the isthmus presented three tectonic sculptures fourteen meters high in a space of tactile and physical encounter with the geological world. When the isthmus closed, there was a great exchange of species between North and South America, represented by the sculptures of animals of 72 different species that began to cross the Isthmus of Panama.
