The itinerery

Day 1 – Arrival in San Jose

Arrive at Juan Santamaria International Airport, where a member of our staff will welcome and accompany you to the hotel. Our representative will be available for any clarifications regarding the program or other needs.

Day 2 – San Jose, Monteverde

Our first tour takes us to the Mayoreo market in the capital, where we discover seasonal tropical fruits and typical products from different regions of the country. Then, we take a walk starting from the famous Chola al Viento statue located on Central Avenue and get to know some historical and cultural landmarks, such as the Metropolitan Cathedral and the famous National Theater. We end our visit at Chietón Morén museum-market, a space where several indigenous communities of Costa Rica exhibit artisanal products that express their culture.

On weekends (since this museum-market is closed), we visit the Museum of Popular Culture, Costa Rica’s first international airport, which tells us about the pre-Columbian history of the country until the construction of the building in 1940. We end the tour with a walk in the gastronomic area of the Escalante neighborhood.

Transfer to the cool mountainous area of Monteverde.

Day 3 – Monteverde

We visit a family in the rural community of Monteverde to learn about the traditional methods of processing sugar cane, cocoa, and coffee. It is an immersion in the peasant culture of the north of the country.

In the afternoon, we move to the Environmental Studies and Protection Center of the municipality of Santa Elena, where we take a tour of the orchids, a flower that Costa Rica has been protecting and cultivating for decades. A local expert will accompany us to discover the over 450 species present, including some endemic ones, such as the smallest in the world.

Day 4 – Monteverde, Rincon de La Vieja

Transfer to Hacienda Guachipelin – a pioneer of eco-sustainable tourism – immersed in the heart of a green area at the foot of the Rincon de la Vieja volcano, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

This is an extraordinary place for its biodiversity, offering a magnificent view not only of the majestic volcano but also of the plains of Guanacaste, up to the Pacific coast. At 3 PM, we take a 1.5 km guided hike in the dry tropical forest to Las Chorreras Waterfalls, observing the wildlife along the way. Upon arrival, you can relax in this picturesque landscape and swim in a pool formed by a tropical waterfall. Two twin falls cascade into a spectacular pool of sky-blue mineral waters. A small canyon of volcanic rock surrounds the falls and the pool, creating an intimate and private tropical oasis for a refreshing dip.

Alternatively, we offer a spa experience that includes volcanic mud, sauna, and hot springs.

Massages and extra services are available.

Day 5 – Monteverde, Border Post of Peñas Blancas, San Juan del Sur (Nicaragua)

Transfer to the seaside resort of San Juan del Sur with hotel accommodation.

Free time to relax while strolling in this colorful village or sipping a beer in one of the bars on the seafront.

Optional activity in the afternoon (extra): Las Nubes Park
We reach Las Nubes Park where we enjoy the canopy experience in the middle of the tropical forest with a view over the ocean (1,100 meters long, 15 platforms, 1 aerial bridge, and 2 hanging bridges). We also visit the center for the protection and reproduction of the green iguana, an animal in danger of extinction in Central America.

Day 6 – San Juan del Sur, San Jorge, Ometepe Island

We move to the village of San Jorge where we take the ferry and reach the island of Ometepe in Cocibolca Lake, a natural paradise dominated by two volcanoes.

Upon arrival, we visit the El Ceibo Museum, which has two exhibits: one made up of ceramics and work tools of the pre-Columbian population who inhabited the island, and the other a collection of over 800 coins and banknotes that trace the history of the country. In the afternoon, we relax at the “Ojo de Agua” reserve, a natural pool of refreshing and healing water, surrounded by nature.

Day 7 – Ometepe Island

Walk in the middle of nature along the Peña Inculta volcanic rock path, which gives us the opportunity to get to know the environment of the dry tropic of Nicaragua and to search for the sedentary and migratory birds that live there.

In the afternoon, we move to “Punta Jesus Maria”, the western end of the island, where a narrow strip of land extends into Cocibolca Lake for about 1.5 km with the current coming from both sides. At high tide, the level of the lake rises, giving the impression of walking on water. We enjoy the sunset, the most beautiful on the island, with the sky taking on shades of pink and orange.

Day 8 – Ometepe Island, San Jorge, Granada

Return to San Jorge by ferry, where our driver will be waiting. The next destination is the colonial city of Granada. In the afternoon, we head to Cocibolca Lake harbor to take a boat ride around some of the 365 small islands (isletas), which were created following an eruption of the Mombacho volcano. Some islands are inhabited, others are home to families of monkeys, squirrels, and various bird species.

Day 9 – Granada, Catarina Viewpoint, San Juan de Oriente

Transfer to the Catarina viewpoint, a hill overlooking the Apoyo lagoon, an extinct crater filled with blue waters and surrounded by dense vegetation. Lunch is included in a typical restaurant. Visit a workshop where artisans produce fine clay artifacts.

Day 10 – Home Sweet Home

Transfer to Managua airport for the return flight home.
End of services.
